Woman seeks Tim Allen impressions on dating app

It’s fascinating how far some people are willing to go in the realm of digital dating. In today’s—let’s say—somewhat desperate landscape, some creative methods emerge. One woman on a dating app decided to shake things up a bit by asking potential matches to mimic Tim Allen’s iconic groan from the classic show “Home Improvement.”

The sitcom, which ran for eight seasons back in the early ’90s, featured Allen as Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, a character famous for his distinct, expressive sounds. Perhaps it’s nostalgia, or maybe just a need for something fun, but her approach drew attention.

Sharing her experiences on TikTok, @kathenn25 invited interested suitors to give their best rendition of Tim’s memorable “awrhoo” sound. She added text on her video for some context, and from there, the impressions began, one after another.

The response was, frankly, quite entertaining. Many users engaged with the videos and some even joined in on the acting. In fact, several of the impressions became a sensation, leading to more videos with the caption: “They are baaaaaack (they never literally tried not to stop coming in).” It certainly caught on, snagging hundreds of comments.

One person humorously wondered, “Is this a twist?” while another noted, with surprise, that some participants genuinely sounded like Allen. One honest comment caught my eye, noting that “Tim Allen’s groan is the true Roman Empire for men,” which—well, I think that’s quite the statement!

An interesting perspective from another user pointed out that the fun of the situation might outshine the actual dating. Someone quipped, “This is better than a date.” That, of course, drew plenty of laughs, with one even exclaiming, “Absolutely a movie!”

The video even made its way over to X (formerly Twitter), where a post about it received over a million views. It’s interesting how a single creative prompt can spark such widespread amusement and connection.

For those curious about where the groan originated, Allen once explained during a performance at a popular comedy club that it came from his early days performing for mostly male audiences. They were occasionally indifferent—more focused on their meals than on him. To grab their attention, he started groaning, a tactic that surprisingly worked!
