Senator Fetterman Expresses Frustration Over Voting Process
Pennsylvania’s Democratic Senator John Fetterman recently shared his annoyance regarding the lengthy voting process on President Donald Trump’s extensive legislation known as “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” He even mentioned that he would rather be relaxing at the beach instead.
On Saturday night, the Senate initiated discussions on Trump’s bill, which is a hefty 900-plus pages. Democrat Minority Leader Chuck Schumer insisted that the entire bill be read aloud—a task that took more than 16 hours to complete.
“Oh my God, I just want to go home. I’ve already missed our entire trip to the beach,” Fetterman said.
He stressed that he finds the prolonged process unnecessary, given that most Democrats are likely to oppose the bill anyway.
“I’m going to vote no. There’s no drama that – we know [how] the votes are going to go,” he added. “And I think, I don’t think it’s really helpful to put people here till some ungodly hour.”
The Senate was originally scheduled to adjourn on Friday, with plans to reconvene on July 7. But GOP Majority Leader John Thune decided to extend their stay in Washington until the vote on the spending bill is finalized, as Trump requested it to be ready by July 4.
This Monday morning, the Senate began voting on amendments to the substantial spending bill, with a final vote expected later in the day before it moves to the House.
Fetterman’s comments drew attention on social media, where many criticized him for seemingly complaining about the demands of his job.
“Poor Fetterman! His family is at the beach, and he’s STUCK representing the Pennsylvanians who voted for him!!!” one user remarked.
“Seriously? He’s crying to the wrong crowd. They get more time off than anyone outside of DC and make more for doing less,” another commenter quipped.
“Oh no, let me almost feel sorry for them for actually doing their jobs. I have missed all kinds of things because of work,” a third user added.
In response to the backlash, Fetterman tweeted, “Not one single Democrat will vote for the ‘big beautiful bill.’ I’m here to vote on these amendments and keep the ball rolling. I’m a HARD NO on the final bill and won’t support cutting Medicaid, SNAP or adding up to $5T to our national debt.”
