Taylor Swift has made quite a statement with a gigantic, sentimental item worth $13,000.
The 35-year-old, who has won 14 Grammy Awards, collaborated with her personal service company, Firefly Entertainment Inc., to acquire a 140-foot inflatable friendship bracelet. This eye-catching piece was displayed on the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans during her sold-out ERAS tour, according to local sources.
It’s expected that the deal will be approved by the Louisiana Stadium and Expo district’s board later this week.
Firefly will manage the collection and shipping of the bracelet per the purchase agreement.
Before her three-night concert series at the Caesars Superdome set for October 2024, Swift was greeted with a massive decoration celebrating the venue. This colorful bracelet, which adorned the stadium facade, featured the words “Taylor Swift the Air Tour” and required a forklift for installation.
The marketing director for ASM New Orleans, Abby Jones, conceived the idea about a month before Swift’s arrival in the city.
To bring this vision to life, Jones enlisted the help of Miami-based artist Sean Korodney, who described the project as akin to a bouncy house outfitted with a giant friendship bracelet. Each “bead” on the bracelet, made from nylon, stands about 7 feet tall. It’s interesting to see how friendship bracelets have taken on a life of their own in Swift’s fandom, especially after the lyrics of her hit song “You’re On Your Kid” inspired fans to create their own versions since the release of her “Midnights” album in late 2022.
After acquiring the concept, Korodney quickly got to work and turned this fun idea into reality.
The bracelet, besides being a decoration, also symbolizes the closeness that Swift shares with her fans. It’s been reported that sales of friendship bracelets have surged at craft stores, showing an increase of 500% as fans create and trade them, spelling out lyrics and song titles.
Swift herself has gotten into the spirit, often sporting versions of these bracelets. For instance, last Christmas, her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, gifted her a golden friendship bracelet inscribed with “TNT,” which came with a hefty price tag.
This friendship bracelet narrative goes beyond just a quirky decoration; it also weaves into the love story of Swift and Kelce, who has made a name for himself trying to impress her, famously attempting to give her a bracelet that included his phone number.
While he didn’t manage to present it at one Kansas City show, the effort caught Swift’s attention, leading her to suggest giving him another chance to connect.
