Tim Walz's Administration Elevated a Sexual Assault Convict to a Key Agency Position

Controversial Hire in Minnesota’s Education Department

The Minnesota Department of Education, under Governor Tim Walz, has faced scrutiny following the hiring of Wilson Tindy, a Kenyan citizen with a troubling criminal history. Tindy was previously convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in her home in 2016 and was nearly deported due to this offense.

In December 2023, Tindy was appointed as the director of internal audit and advisory services. Court documents reveal he admitted to inappropriately touching another woman in Hennepin County in 2014, a plea deal that allowed him to avoid a robbery charge. This agreement resulted in a sentence that permitted him to remain in the U.S. Meanwhile, another accusation against him regarding a sexual assault in 2012 was left uncharged.

Reports indicated that his profile was removed from the Minnesota Department of Education website after inquiries from Alpha News. Before this incident, his profile described responsibilities related to risk management and compliance across state agencies. He originally secured a position in 2018, prior to Governor Walz’s tenure as he aimed for the vice presidential candidacy in 2024.

ICE attempted to deport Tindy as early as 2008. He had become a legal permanent resident in 2014, yet faced challenges with immigration due to his criminal record. Tindy’s immigration status became a prominent concern as court records documented prolonged custody that eventually led to him being released in February 2018.

As of now, Tindy’s records do not appear in ICE’s detention database. He reportedly earned $58 per hour at the Pollution Control Agency in 2024.
