Gavin Adcock Comments on Beyoncé’s Country Album

Country artist Gavin Adcock recently shared his unfiltered thoughts about Beyoncé’s new album, “Cowboy Carter,” during a live performance. It seems he wasn’t shy about addressing Beyoncé’s venture into the country music scene.

During the concert, Adcock noted the rankings of the Apple Music Country album chart, where Beyoncé’s work sits at number three, just a spot ahead of his own album, “Owned Enemy,” at number four.

In a casual but pointed moment, he remarked, “One of them, Beyoncé. You can tell her we’re here for her.” However, he quickly added, “It wasn’t country music, it wasn’t country music.”

Later, Adcock posted a video on social media explaining that his critiques weren’t meant to be personal. He emphasized, “I’m going to go ahead and clear this. When I was a little kid, my mom had Beyoncé playing in the car. I’ve heard a lot of Beyoncé songs and I actually remember her Super Bowl halftime show pretty vividly.” He then continued to express his opinion, stating, “But I really don’t believe that her album should be labeled country music. It doesn’t sound country, it doesn’t feel country… I just don’t think people who have devoted themselves to the genre for their whole life should be competing with that just because she’s Beyoncé.”

Interestingly, earlier this year, Beyoncé won two Grammy Awards for “Cowboy Carter,” suggesting her recent endeavors in country music are gaining significant recognition.

Recalling his experiences, Adcock reflected on how the album was created over five years, stemming from an earlier feeling of being unwelcome in the genre. He mentioned diving deeper into the history of country music during this time, underlining a sense of community in music that transcends boundaries.

As of now, representatives for both Adcock and Beyoncé have yet to respond to requests for comment following these remarks.
