Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Signs Major Contract Extension with Thunder
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, fresh off securing his first NBA Championship as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, has landed another significant achievement. The Thunder and Gilgeous-Alexander have finalized a four-year, record-setting contract extension, according to reports from ESPN.
This new deal is reportedly valued at $285 million and will keep him with the Thunder through the 2030-31 season. Notably, this extension grants Gilgeous-Alexander the highest annual salary ever awarded to an NBA player.
In a notable season, only two players have ever captured both the League MVP and Finals MVP in the same year—this achievement came as the Thunder triumphed over the Indiana Pacers to claim the coveted Larry O’Brien Trophy.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s basketball journey began with the Los Angeles Clippers before he joined the Thunder. His transition to Oklahoma City was part of a major trade that saw Paul George head to Los Angeles. During that transaction, the Thunder also acquired Jalen Williams, who contributed to the team’s success last season before undergoing wrist surgery.
Adding to his accolades, Gilgeous-Alexander not only won the MVP and Finals MVP but also claimed the league’s scoring title, completing a sort of Triple Crown within the NBA.
The Thunder’s 2025 Finals victory marked their first championship since relocating to Oklahoma City in 2008; they originally won an NBA title in 1979 before the move. It’s an exciting time for both Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder as they look ahead to the future.
