Republican Rep. Derrick Van Olden on Pressure to Support Trump’s Legislation

Wisconsin Republican Representative Derrick Van Olden recently expressed his thoughts regarding the pressure on House Republicans to back President Donald Trump’s key legislation.

In a conversation with a Punch Bowl reporter about a settlement bill, Van Olden remarked, “The President of the United States did not give us a mission. We are not merely following orders here; I am a member of Congress.”

Rep. Van Olden on the legislation:

“The US President has not given us any challenges. We are not merely following orders here. I am a member of Congress.”

Van Olden’s office later argued that the media lacked context when covering his remarks.

“This is why many Americans have a distaste for mainstream media,” the office stated in a post on X. They claimed that the reporter, Nguyen, did not clarify her question about whether Republicans are simply following Trump’s lead. Additionally, they noted that she left out parts of Van Olden’s response, which included acknowledging Trump as the leader of the GOP and House Republicans.

This is why Americans can’t stand the mainstream press.

Nguyen failed to provide context in her question about whether Republicans are ‘leading to their noses by President Trump.’ She also omitted the full response from Rep. Van Olden…

According to his office, Van Olden is eager to deliver a significant bill to President Trump for signing into law.

In a video shared by House GOP, it was emphasized that members are prepared to approve the “big and beautiful bill,” which they claim will lead to substantial tax breaks for workers and the middle class, while also rejuvenating the economy and fulfilling American aspirations.

The video featured Van Olden along with the House GOP’s message.

House Republicans are united and ready to enact historic tax cuts for workers and middle-class Americans. One large, beautiful bill will revitalize our economy and restore the American dream.

Van Olden has a notable background, having served for 26 years as a senior chief in the Navy Seals, participating in several combat missions across various regions including Africa, Asia, Europe, and America. In 2012, he oversaw special operations in Europe.

Attempts to reach Van Olden’s office for further comments were unsuccessful prior to publication.
