Multiple Shootings in Chicago

Chicago police report that 18 people were shot and four lost their lives late Wednesday night during a drive-by shooting outside a nightclub.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near Artis Restaurant and Lounge and Dunkin’ Donuts in the River North neighborhood. Eyewitnesses mentioned hearing rapid-fire gunshots and seeing vehicles speeding away.

“It’s traumatic. I’m just shaking,” recounted one female witness.

Workers at the nightclub indicated that an album release party for local rapper Melo Bucks was being held that evening. The club was closed at the time of the shooting, leading many patrons to be outside.

According to police, an initial investigation suggests a dark vehicle passed the nightclub just moments after 11 p.m.

Victims were transported to various hospitals, with some witnesses sharing that they took it upon themselves to drive friends to get medical help rather than wait for an ambulance.

“I heard a series of gunshots, then saw many police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks rushing in,” recounted a witness named Desshaun.

Out of the 18 victims, police reported that at least 16 were between the ages of 21 and 32. The deceased included a 24-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, and two women whose ages have not been disclosed.

Of those injured, three were reported to be in critical condition, while nine were stable, one was in fair condition, and one more reported good health, according to police.

A local resident named Ariel noted the unsettling atmosphere, saying that just looking at the faces around her told her something tragic had occurred.

“I was cooking when I heard this loud commotion,” Ariel shared. “The moment I saw someone who looked distressed come downstairs, I felt compelled to grab my phone. I knew something was up just by their expression.”
