Mark Geragos Predicts Diddy’s Sentence
Mark Geragos, a well-known attorney and father to one of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lawyers, has made some bold forecasts about the rapper’s impending sentence.
Geragos believes that Diddy might end up serving less than 18 months in prison. “What is the government asking for? They’re shooting for 50 to 60 months,” he remarked during a podcast with Harvey Levin. “Honestly, the guidelines for the verdict suggest a range of 20 to 27 months.”
Geragos continued with his thoughts, saying, “I think if he had a fair trial, he would probably serve 21 months. Even if he were to receive a 36-month sentence, there’s a good chance he won’t end up serving the full time.” He expressed some optimism, suggesting, “I think he might be out within a year, maybe 18 months tops. There’s a possibility they might consider time served.”
As for the trial, judges reached various verdicts after Diddy’s two-month court proceedings. He was acquitted of sex trafficking and assault, but he did plead guilty to charges related to transporting individuals for prostitution. Following the verdict, the judge denied Diddy’s request for bail.
Diddy has already spent almost 10 months in custody, and this time will count towards his final sentence.
The legal team representing Diddy included both daughters of Geragos, Tenny and Mark Agnifilo. In a podcast, Tenny expressed gratitude to Levin and acknowledged Diddy’s legal outcome with a simple, “It feels good.”
Despite the mixed outcomes of the trial, the defense team argued that the prosecution lacked a strong foundation, emotionalizing their claim that this was about “voluntary adult choices,” rather than being part of a criminal enterprise.
Nicole Blank Becker, R. Kelly’s attorney, weighed in after the verdict, stating that testimonies from Diddy’s exes, Cassie Ventura and someone referred to as “Jane,” made it challenging for the defense. She remarked, “Diddy was convicted on two charges, including that of transporting individuals for prostitution. The testimonies we had from Cassie and Jane were significant.”
While prosecutors initially appeared strong, Becker noted that cracks were beginning to show in their case as they tried to leverage RICO charges, suggesting that Diddy’s music empire was somehow tied to organized crime. “In the end, it seemed like a stretch legally and logically,” she added.
Looking forward, violation of federal RICO laws could lead to hefty sentences – up to 20 years. The transport charges related to prostitution carry a maximum sentence of 10 years, while serious sex trafficking claims may involve 20 years, contingent upon various factors.
Diddy remains incarcerated as he awaits sentencing. Prosecutors are suggesting a term of four to five years based on the verdict. A remote hearing for both the defense and prosecution has been scheduled for Tuesday, as they finalize plans regarding his sentencing.
A federal judge is expected to formally propose the sentencing decision on October 3rd, while Diddy’s defense is advocating for an expedited ruling.
