Islamic Group Files Lawsuit Against French Populist Marion Maréchal

French MEP Faces Legal Battle Over Allegations

Marion Marécharle, a member of the European Parliament and a figure in the French Le Pen political legacy, claims she’s experiencing what she describes as “judicial jihad.” This comes after she was sued for damage to honor by an organization managing an Islamic school in Valencia. The lawsuit stems from her accusations linking the organization to the radical Muslim Brotherhood.

In 2023, Marécharle made controversial statements on social media, alleging that the school had ties to the Brotherhood and claimed it shared objectives with groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS. Reports from Le Figaro highlighted her situation as she faces an honor loss trial scheduled for September.

This organization had previously pursued legal action against French satirical magazines such as Charlie Hebdo, particularly regarding an honor loss case from 2022 that alleged links to the Muslim Brotherhood. According to the group, this led to significant issues, including canceled real estate dealings.

The court dismissed that lawsuit, concluding that the claims about the school’s connection to the Brotherhood fall under the realm of free expression and represent a “subjective value judgment.” Additionally, the judge questioned the grounds for the honor loss claim, particularly since the Muslim Brotherhood is not classified as a terrorist organization in France.

Marécharle responded to the lawsuit, stating, “For 15 years, I have fought against the Muslim Brotherhood. They come across me whenever they try to advance. They certainly understand this.” She mentioned she would confront them in court on September 2nd, expressing her reliance on public support.

This legal dispute was set in motion following a French government report suggesting that the Muslim Brotherhood has been engaging in a long-term strategy to undermine and destabilize French and European institutions, ultimately aiming to impose Sharia law in the West. The report also highlighted the organization’s focus on immigrant communities, deploying trained activists in private schools, sports groups, job placement services, and Islamic dating sites to ensure rigorous adherence to the Quran and maintain control over these communities.

The investigation uncovered at least 114 Qur’an schools with direct ties to the French Muslim Brotherhood, along with hundreds of mosques and Islamic societies across the country.
