Kelly Clarkson has decided to postpone the opening night of her Las Vegas residency, leading to considerable disappointment among fans just 90 minutes before she was set to perform on Friday.
One fan expressed frustration on social media, suggesting, “I really think artists ought to consider refunding fans who travel to see them and cancel only as a last resort.” Another agreed, saying they understood the cancellation but felt concern for those who spent large sums to attend the show, implying there should be some form of compensation.
One concertgoer shared their hopes, stating, “I just hope I made this decision before it was too late, and that I’ll feel better soon.”
In a heartfelt Instagram message posted shortly before the scheduled show, Clarkson explained that despite her and her team’s relentless efforts to create a memorable experience, her voice was struggling due to rehearsals.
She mentioned, “I want this show to be flawless for all of you. I need to prevent any serious harm, so I’ll be taking time to rest this weekend and next week, ensuring I can deliver something truly special.” Her message conveyed deep gratitude to fans for their continued support, coupled with her devastation over the need to delay the opening at Caesars.
Clarkson had previously shared a behind-the-scenes rehearsal photo, showcasing herself in casual attire, captioning it, “Tonight!! #openingnight #studiosessions #vegasrehearsals.”
While some fans were vocal in their disappointment about the cancellation, others were supportive. Comments included sentiments like, “When you’re truly performing live, you can be forgiven for such instances. Prioritize that amazing voice.” One person reflected on a similar experience at another artist’s concert, expressing understanding about the necessity of self-care.
This cancellation arrives amidst rumors that Clarkson is grappling with “very painful” personal matters, suggesting a possible end to her talk show, the “Kelly Clarkson Show.” In May, she had remarked that the demands of the talk show had interfered with her ability to tour, noting that working on the show felt like an entirely different job.
The residency, titled “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions,” is planned to consist of 18 performances at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, running until mid-November. While some fans reacted with frustration, others empathized with the artist and her needs.
