Deshaun Watson Ties the Knot
Before the start of the 2025 season, Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson got married to his long-term girlfriend, Jilly Anais, earlier this week.
The couple shared their wedding rings on social media. Watson had “07.02.25” marked on his wrist, which appears to be a significant date for them.
The newlyweds reportedly celebrated with close family on a boat trip around Miami.
Earlier this March, Watson and Anais announced their engagement. Just recently, they even shared a playful video on Instagram of themselves dancing by the roadside, captioning it with “We sail.”
On a more serious note, it’s uncertain whether Watson will miss the entire 2025 season after suffering a second Achilles tendon rupture in just three months. His first injury occurred during an October game against the Cincinnati Bengals, and he re-injured the same tendon in January.
Contract Restructuring
In a recent financial maneuver, the Browns restructured Watson’s contract to free up some cap space. Reports indicate that nearly $36 million was cleared in the process. This was the second such adjustment made to his lucrative contract in just three months.
Watson joined the Browns in 2022 under a fully guaranteed contract worth $230 million. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old quarterback has only participated in 19 games due to various injuries, including a shoulder injury that ended his previous season and his recent Achilles tendon issues.
Additionally, he faced a 13-game suspension tied to sexual misconduct allegations during his time with the Houston Texans, which kept him off the field for the entirety of the 2021 season.
The Browns have also been proactive regarding their quarterback lineup, having traded away Kenny Pickett, re-signed Joe Flacco, and drafted both Dillon Gabriel and Shedale Sanders in recent weeks.
