Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo both in the Hamptons for the Fourth of July

Political Weekend in the Hamptons

Over the weekend, Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo found themselves in the Hamptons, mingling at some popular spots.

Adams attended a fundraiser for Maria and Kenneth Fischel at OPF Long Island, located in the ritzy East End. Earlier on Saturday, he also made an appearance at Main’s Eatery75 for a power breakfast.

Meanwhile, Cuomo was still pushing his agenda for the mayoral race—despite facing a tough loss in the Democratic primary. He, too, dined at the same restaurant the previous night.

Before heading to a lunchtime fundraiser co-hosted by notable names like John and Margo Catsimatidis and Jared and Mindy Epstein, Adams recalled hockey legend Wayne Gretzky’s support during his own campaign efforts.

At this breakfast event, New York’s vice-mayor, Randy Mastro, was scheduled to speak. Adams, arriving toward the end, delivered an impassioned campaign address, according to those present.

The “Hampton’s Business Power Breakfast” was co-hosted by billionaire John Cassimatidis and Father Alexander Carlouts, taking place in Southampton.

In his remarks, which touched on keeping New York safe and resisting disruptive ideologies, Adams shared an anecdote about Gretzky facing tough times. “Then Gretzky stood up and entered her opponent’s locker room. They were tired of abuse,” Adams recounted, which seemed to invigorate him. Attendees noted that Adams emphasized his determination to keep fighting amid recent scandals.

Adams also took aim at Democratic candidate Zoran Mamdani, critiquing his claims regarding his identity on a Columbia University application. Adams argued Mamdani’s proposals were unrealistic, asserting that lawmakers wouldn’t successfully pass a significant tax increase without state approval, especially with opposition from Governor Kathy Hochul, who is facing reelection.

Attendees reported that Adams remarked on the limitations of his authority regarding tax laws.

A source mentioned that during his meal, Adams expressed gratitude to the chef and dishwasher, stating, “I’m going to win for them.” This sentiment was shared with an audience of over 100 people, including supporter Mitch Modell. It’s been noted that supporters were eager to contribute to Adams, especially in light of Cuomo’s ongoing political challenges.

Joan Gedel, an editor from Hampton Sheet, reported that Cuomo dined at 75 Main on Saturday night with friends, and was contemplating a run in the upcoming general election.

Cuomo was seen socializing in the Hamptons during various events, including a birthday bash for political insider Lally Weymouth, a gathering attended by several prominent figures.

Sources indicated that Cuomo was engaging with potential supporters and stakeholders about his future in politics. Conversations suggested that his interest in the city was stronger than ever.

After Adams’ event, the Fischel estate hosted a gala benefiting Tunnel to Towers, honoring veterans and featuring an emotional keynote from Suffolk County Councilman Chad Lennon.

A quirky remark was made by a source at the July 4 parade about extravagant spending typical of the Hamptons, indicating a blend of political and social discourse typical of the scene.
