Texas Hill Country Flood Tragedy

A devastating flash flood in Texas Hill Country resulted in at least 27 fatalities on Friday, prompting the Houston Texans to announce a $500,000 donation to aid the affected community.

The Texans released a statement on Saturday, expressing their commitment to providing support and necessary resources following the tragic event. “We are heartbroken by the losses and damages our Texas Hill Country neighbors have endured,” they stated. There is particular concern for the missing children, as the team hopes for their safe reunification with families.

In addition to monetary donations, the Texans committed to supporting ongoing search, rescue, and recovery efforts in the coming weeks. “Our thoughts are with everyone impacted,” they added, emphasizing their care and concern.

The situation worsened on Friday night when two campers from Camp Mystic, a private Christian camp in Hunt, Texas, were reported missing. Around 750 campers were present when the flood hit.

Anne Hunt confirmed the tragic news that her daughter, Janie, was among those killed. Alongside her, another camper, Renee Smajstrla, was also identified as a victim of the flooding.

By Saturday, Kerr County officials reported 27 confirmed deaths, with nine of those being children. Furthermore, there were over 850 reported injuries, and rescues were still ongoing.

The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office advised anyone with missing loved ones to reach out to the Red Cross for assistance and updates.
