Trump’s Attendance at FIFA Club World Cup Final
President Donald Trump announced his plans to attend the FIFA Club World Cup final during a Cabinet meeting at the White House. This event is set for Sunday at MetLife Stadium, wrapping up the month-long tournament.
On Sunday, Chelsea, a team from the Premier League, will compete against the winner of Wednesday’s match between Paris Saint-Germain from France and the Spanish team Real Madrid. When asked about attending the final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Trump confirmed, “I’m going to the game.”
Interestingly, news about attendees for the finals surfaced just after FIFA revealed its decision to establish offices in Trump Tower in Manhattan. The World Cup trophy will also be displayed there until the final match.
Trump received his invitation to the Club World Cup finals from FIFA president Gianni Infantino during a visit to the White House back in March. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also mentioned extending the invitation but seemed unsure about Trump’s actual attendance.
Since taking office earlier this year, Trump has attended various significant sports events. On top of that, he was involved in the NFL’s announcement regarding the hosting of the 2007 draft in Washington, D.C. Vice President JD Vance also participated in a Club World Cup match recently in Cincinnati.
Infantino expressed appreciation for the support received from Trump’s administration toward both the Club World Cup and the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. He noted the administration’s involvement in the task force for the Club World Cup and emphasized its significance as a precursor to next year’s tournament, where the number of participating teams will increase from 32 to 48.
MetLife Stadium is poised to host eight matches, including the finals, as part of the 2026 World Cup.
