A 17-year-old is accused of murdering his mother and stepfather in their Georgia home before heading to church. The tragic incident, which reportedly followed the couple’s discovery of a deceased sister, occurred on February 20.
Sarah Grace Patrick was taken into custody and charged in connection with the deaths of 41-year-old Kristen Brock and 45-year-old James Brock. It’s been reported that their five-year-old daughter found the couple’s bodies in bed, and that the teenager was the one who called 911.
“From the moment that 911 call came in, we began an exhaustive investigation,” stated Ashley Halsey, a spokesperson for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, during a press briefing.
Upon arriving at the scene, investigators found no signs of forced entry. They noticed one door was ajar, but there were no valuables missing.
“Our team sifted through a lot of physical and digital evidence, collaborating with the FBI and GBI Crime Labs,” Halsey explained.
Additionally, a touching tribute given by Patrick at his mother’s funeral became a critical piece of evidence against him.
Authorities highlighted the importance of careful deliberation in identifying the perpetrator, recognizing how shocking the crime was for the community. They felt it was essential to confirm they had the right suspect before moving forward with charges.
Patrick, now facing trial as an adult, is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault, while investigators still strive to understand the intentions behind the tragic act.
“It’s hard to comprehend what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents,” Halsey remarked.
Despite his arrest, the investigation is ongoing, with officials not ruling out the possibility of additional arrests as they gather more information.
Halsey noted the profound impact on the couple’s young daughter, recalling how she discovered her parents’ deaths. “She’s probably the saddest victim in all this,” she commented.
Members of Catalyst Church, where the couple were active participants, are mourning their loss, describing them as kind and loving individuals. “Kristen was hilarious and friendly, while James always had a way to make people laugh,” shared a church member.
As the community copes with this tragedy, there were pleas from members for the shooter to turn themselves in. “I hope they think it over,” said one person, stressing the importance of the family’s well-being.
Kristen and James Brock are survived by seven children. If convicted, Patrick may face life in prison without the chance of parole.
