Top 10 quarterback rankings for the upcoming 2025 NFL season

Top 10 quarterback rankings for the upcoming 2025 NFL season

Ranking quarterbacks in the NFL has become increasingly complex. Aside from the top three—Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills—there’s a lot of variability from QB4 to QB12. Each quarterback brings different styles and strengths to the field, making for a diverse viewing experience throughout the season. So, how do the rest stack up? Let’s dive in.

10. CJ Stroud, Houston Texans

Choosing between Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, Jaden Daniels, and Jared Goff for the last spot was tough, but I went with Stroud. Despite facing poor play calls and a shaky offensive line, he led his team to the second round of the playoffs. His calm demeanor and accuracy make him a formidable passer, even if he doesn’t have the explosiveness of some others.

9. Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders

Geno Smith is one of my all-time favorites to watch. His arm strength and pinpoint accuracy allow him to make tight throws. Last season, he managed to keep his sack rate low with one of the league’s worst offensive lines. He’s getting older, which might hold him back in the rankings, but I believe he’ll crack the top 10 by 2025.

8. Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love can be explosive when he’s locked in. His deep accuracy is impressive; he can really let it rip when the defense allows it. If he can minimize mistakes and work on his decision-making, I think we could see him climb higher next year.

7. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

If I had to explain quarterbacking to someone new to the game, I’d show them Dak Prescott highlights. His footwork and processing are textbook. Though currently dealing with injuries, I still consider him a top 10 quarterback due to his accuracy. With new coaching this season, there’s a real chance for him to shine in 2025.

6. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

The rankings among QBs 6 to 12 can shift week by week. Stafford, while not as mobile as others his age, still has a strong arm and can deliver sharp passes. I expect him to regain a spot in my top 10 next season.

5. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

Herbert’s growth this past season couldn’t be captured by stats alone. He showcased a lot of development under Jim Harbaugh, moving away from being just a “robot” quarterback. His ability to scramble and create plays outside the pocket made him much more dynamic this year.

4. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

While I don’t quite place Burrow in the same tier as the likes of Allen, Jackson, and Mahomes, his performance was impressive. Leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns demonstrates his growth. I have some concerns about his offense, but his accuracy and creativity put him solidly at fourth for me.

3. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

The gap between Allen and Jackson isn’t huge, yet what Allen accomplished this past season was remarkable. As the Bills leaned more on a run-first approach, he carried much of the load and delivered one of the best seasons of his career, earning the MVP award. I’m curious to see how the offense evolves around him in 2025.

2. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

The difference between Jackson and the next quarterback on this list can vary based on perspective, but his 2024 season has been nothing short of stellar. He’s the heart of the Ravens’ offense, which secures his second-place ranking.

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Could it really be anyone else? Even though the Chiefs’ offense hasn’t been as explosive as before, Mahomes has continued to evolve into one of the best, both pre- and post-snap. His accuracy, ability to avoid mistakes, and overall efficiency keep him at the top.

Honorable mentions:

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars: Sometimes a bit inconsistent, but his talent and accuracy could see him break back into the top 10.

Jaden Daniels, Washington Commanders: He’s a modern spread-style QB and can be very dangerous when breaking out of the pocket. I’m keen to see how he maintains his performance next season.

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions: Goff has matured with each passing year in Detroit. 2025 could be a pivotal season for him, especially with the team’s evolving dynamics.
