Amazon is on the move.
Residents in urban areas are familiar with the convenience of fast delivery within a day, but now even those in smaller towns and rural areas will get to experience it.
In a recent announcement related to Surprise Prime Day, Amazon revealed plans to broaden its speedy delivery service to over 4,000 new locations by year-end.
The company emphasized that this expansion focuses on increasing speed. They noted that it’s about enhancing the daily lives of rural patrons who are usually far from physical stores and often struggle with limited delivery options when shopping online.
This new initiative allows shoppers in smaller communities to enjoy the perks of unlimited same-day free delivery on orders exceeding $25.
Items available range from everyday essentials like paper towels, diapers, and dog food to instant ramen, nuts, and coffee pods.
Amazon expressed that these products are critical for quick delivery, aiming to ensure that customers can get what they need without delays. They also mentioned that their same-day delivery service would streamline inventory management for small-town customers.
To support this expansion, Amazon has committed over $4 billion by 2026, which will effectively triple its delivery network, particularly focusing on rural and small-town areas.
The company is also transforming current rural delivery stations into hybrid hubs, allowing them to stock products for quicker deliveries.
This “rural expansion” initiative impacts 13,000 ZIP codes across various locations, from North Padre Island in Texas to places like Delaware and Iowa.
Amazon also shared that they are working on innovations that will improve delivery speeds through 2024 and into 2025.
So far, they’ve reported that the number of items eligible for same or next-day delivery in the US has surged over 30% compared to last year.
