France to Halt Assets of Islamist Organizations Linked to Muslim Brotherhood

France Targets Islamic Groups with New Measures

The French government has decided to implement counter-terrorism-like measures aimed at freezing the financial assets of groups linked to bombings that the Muslim Brotherhood reportedly has conducted over the years. These actions focus on both public and private institutions across France and Europe.

During a Council of Defense meeting in Paris on Monday, President Emmanuel Macron directed officials to formulate a comprehensive strategy against what he termed “Muslim entryism” by the end of the summer.

A report indicates that this initiative aims to disrupt Islamic groups believed to be undermining the values of the French Republic. The government plans to use financial tools previously reserved for counter-terrorism efforts to achieve this.

This approach will ensure that states cannot transfer assets before they are liquidated by the government. Additionally, a new division within the French tax authority will investigate suspicious charitable donations to these groups.

Macron is also seeking a detailed list of criteria to determine which Islamist organizations should face outright bans. There will be increased scrutiny on the rise of private schools and incidents of “hate” associated with them.

“Some measures require legislative development,” Macron stated. He emphasized that the needed legislative progress could be made by the end of the year, especially with the text ready in the summer.

Simultaneously, neoliberal leaders are reportedly preparing to address “Muslim compatriots,” distinguishing between Islamists and Muslims who embrace French values. This is seen as an effort to soften relations with Muslim communities amidst a strong response to perceived Islamic threats.

Commenting on the announcements, Marine Le Pen, the leader of the populist National Rally, mentioned that while some of the measures are positive steps, they are ultimately insufficient to address the challenges posed by radical Islam.

She criticized Macron for failing to acknowledge the underlying issues stemming from unchecked immigration, suggesting these contribute to a “fertile ground” for community extremism.

Le Pen asserted the need for a decisive and thorough undertaking against Islamist ideology, framing it as a political project that must be countered with concrete legislative proposals.

This latest move by the French government follows a report released in May that highlighted the Muslim Brotherhood’s significant influence within French society and the broader EU, describing it as a means to establish a growing faction working against Western values.

The report revealed that at least 114 private Muslim schools, 280 Islamic associations, and 139 mosques in France have direct links to the Brotherhood. Furthermore, it noted that Islamist networks are attempting to mobilize activists in immigrant communities to enforce practices, such as wearing veils, aimed at resisting assimilation into Western culture.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s strategy has included leveraging French liberal values to lend credibility to their objectives, often invoking issues like “Islamophobia” and events related to Gaza.
