Richard Ashcroft discusses an Oasis fan unfamiliar with ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’

Life’s interesting, isn’t it?

Richard Ashcroft, the former lead singer of The Verve, took to social media to address some Oasis fans who didn’t seem familiar with his iconic track “Bitter Sweet Symphony.”

This little incident happened in Cardiff, Wales, on July 4th, just before Oasis kicked off their first concert in 16 years.

Ashcroft was performing as the opener for Oasis, and during his set, a young audience member was seen trying to identify “Bitter Sweet Symphony” on Shazam.

“Richard Ashcroft will treat us to this bittersweet symphony ahead of Oasis. Here we see someone on Shazam trying to put a name to it,” shared one viral clip.

In another clip, Ashcroft welcomed the Oasis fans, inviting them to enjoy not just his music but that of The Verve.

He mused, “Thanks to everyone for the amazing support at my set,” accompanied by footage of his performance. “If you weren’t aware of Shazam, we’re thrilled to have new fans!”

Ashcroft even expressed his admiration for Liam Gallagher, saying, “Love him! What a song!” He seemed pretty excited about the whole evening.

However, there was a noticeable backlash from some other fans who were not impressed with the Shazam incident. They felt it was embarrassing to not recognize such a famous song.

One fan tweeted how shocking it was, saying it was “very embarrassing” to see the viral clip.

Another chimed in about how the young woman should have been asked to leave the venue for not knowing the song. It was a mixed bag of reactions.

Yet, some defended the girl, reminding others that everyone has their own musical journey. “No one really knows everything,” commented one person lightheartedly.

Ashcroft’s performance preceded Liam and Noel Gallagher as they prepared for their big moment on stage, marking their band’s reunion after a long break since their split following a famous feud in 2009.

During the concert, the brothers showed a united front, greeting each other warmly before performing classic hits like “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova.”

Industry insiders believe the reunion tour could net the Gallagher brothers at least $200 million, and fans are definitely elated to see them back together.

As one fan tweeted during the event, “This is history,” while another remarked it was a sight to behold.

Noel’s first ex-wife, Meg Matthews, was caught leaving the concert early. She took to social media to clarify that she wanted to beat the crowd but still caught the tail end of the show, including “Wonderwall.”

As the tour progresses, Oasis will have several more shows in the UK and Ireland before heading to North America starting August 25th.
