PSG Dominates in Club World Cup Final
Paris Saint-Germain is solidifying its status as one of the elite football clubs globally.
Their recent triumph in the FIFA Club World Cup final culminated in a convincing 4-0 victory over Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium, where 77,542 fans gathered. PSG scored twice early and added two more goals later in the match, showcasing their offensive prowess.
Next up for PSG is a showdown with Chelsea, who secured a 2-0 win against Fulminence the day before.
Kylian Mbappe made his first start of the tournament, returning after an illness that had sidelined him at the beginning. However, it’s noteworthy that he didn’t score, which might be surprising given his history with the team.
This match marked the first encounter between these two heavyweights since their clash in the 2021-22 Champions League Round of 16. But this time, the game felt quite lopsided, with Fabian Lewis netting two goals in the first half alone.
PSG, with their League 1 dominance, capitalized on Real Madrid’s weakened defense, missing two key starters.
Real Madrid’s coach, Xabi Alonso, attempted to adapt by substituting in Raul Asencio and Fede Valverde, but it didn’t change the game’s trajectory. The outcomes were swift and severe.
Interestingly, the kickoff was delayed by ten minutes due to traffic issues with the team buses, which is always a bit chaotic. However, the delay didn’t hinder PSG from quickly taking advantage of Real Madrid’s defensive errors.
Ousmane Dembele danced around goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and set up Ruiz in the box, who decisively finished in the left corner just five minutes into the match. Only three minutes later, Dembele doubled the lead, scoring after a clever play.
Lewis added another left-footed goal in the 24th minute, further asserting PSG’s control.
Although PSG had a fourth goal ruled offside soon after halftime, they did seal the match with a final goal from Gonzalo Ramos in the 87th minute, putting an emphatic exclamation point on a dominant performance.
