Linda Yaccarino Steps Down as CEO of X

On Wednesday, Linda Yaccarino announced her departure from her role as CEO of X in a post on social media.

“Two years ago, I decided to step down as CEO of X,” she stated. “I am incredibly proud of X-Team. The historic business we have achieved together is nothing but amazing.”

Yaccarino, a former executive at NBCUniversal, joined the company in 2023, just after Elon Musk took ownership of the platform.

Together, Musk and Yaccarino sought to reshape the platform, which Musk had criticized for being overly focused on a “woke” agenda.

Under these changes, X permanently banned President Donald Trump on January 8, 2021, citing concerns about potential violence related to the January 6 protests, despite Trump urging supporters to remain peaceful.

In her resignation announcement, Yaccarino expressed unwavering support for the company and its leadership, noting various initiatives launched during her time, including Xai.

This AI platform is meant to run on Grok, a chatbot that recently faced backlash after posting anti-Semitic remarks on X.

Notably, sources mentioned that Yaccarino’s resignation was “not related to the Grok incident,” allowing them to speak anonymously.

Musk also commented on Grok’s issues, attributing them to “too much compliance with user prompts” and that it was “overly eager to operate.”

Musk had appointed Yaccarino to manage advertising relationships, which had suffered after the 2022 acquisition.

Significant layoffs followed Musk’s acquisition, leading him to question the necessity of maintaining a large staff for what he referred to as a “large group texting service.”

“If you don’t mind censoring, you don’t need a lot of people who run Twitter,” he remarked in April 2023.

In light of advertiser concerns over perceived “politically incorrect” messaging, X has taken legal action against groups previously accused of boycotting its platform.

Despite these challenges, both Musk and Yaccarino have insisted that advertising on X remains stable, with some mainstream companies reviving their campaigns.

During her tenure, Yaccarino implemented several strategic changes, including AI integration and the development of a premium subscription service, successfully competing against platforms like Meta’s Threads and Bluesky.
