Ben Askren Shares Health Update After Hospitalization

Former MMA fighter Ben Askren has been revealing his health status since being hospitalized over a month ago. He faced a severe illness that ultimately required a double lung transplant.

In a video shared from his hospital bed, Askren remarked that he had no memory from May 28 to July 2, describing the experience as surreal, almost like a movie. He mentioned that his heart had stopped multiple times during that period. However, he expressed relief and strength after the transplant, stating, “I made it on the other side,” and noted that he was getting his strength back. Just yesterday, he reported weighing 147 pounds, a notable achievement after his health struggles.

Askren’s wife, Amy, had previously shared that a donor was found for the transplant after his health declined in May. He highlighted the overwhelming love and support he received from the wrestling community, even likening it to a funeral, which he found profoundly moving and motivating.

Recently, he signed with Real American Freestyle, a venture spearheaded by Hulk Hogan, aimed at promoting professional freestyle wrestling. Askren, a two-time NCAA champion, was also part of Team USA during the 2008 Olympics and has earned multiple gold medals throughout his wrestling career.

He transitioned fully into MMA in 2010 and fought with various promotions, including Bellator and the UFC. His last notable fights included matches against Robbie Lawler and Jorge Masvidal, as well as a boxing match against Jake Paul in 2021.

Despite the setbacks, Askren’s journey continues to inspire many, as he channels his experiences into motivation for the future.
