Trump and Obama Bond Over Golf at Carter’s Funeral
President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama shared a light-hearted moment at the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter in January 2025, right before Trump was set to return to the Oval Office. Their friendly exchange caught the attention of many and quickly went viral on social media.
On January 9, Trump and Obama were seen smiling and chatting at the Washington National Cathedral, creating quite the buzz online among people speculating about the nature of their relationship. Trump’s book, “2024: How Trump Takes the White House and Democrats Lost America,” noted that he arrived at the funeral feeling victorious after the November election and found himself seated next to Obama.
According to the book, Trump described his arrival as that of a “conqueror,” ignoring any negative sentiments from those who may have opposed him. Instead, he engaged Obama in conversation about golf, sharing stories about his golf courses worldwide and seemingly enjoying the moment as if he were still the president.
Interestingly, the book claims that Biden’s aides would use Trump’s perceived vulnerabilities to emphasize Biden’s strengths in the political arena.
Trump and Obama sat amongst a gathering of prominent figures, including former Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and other notable political figures like Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Social media reactions were mixed; many users found it surprising to see the two former presidents together, while others humorously speculated about Obama’s political leanings. One user joked, saying the sighting was not something they had on their “2025 bingo card.”
Clay Travis, a sports commentator, also chimed in with humor, asking if Obama had voted for Trump. The playful banter sparked intrigue and laughter among followers.
Others suggested a lip reader might be needed to decipher what made Obama laugh during their interaction. Reflecting on the fun exchange, Trump admitted he hadn’t realized how friendly it appeared, saying, “They look like two people who like each other.” He acknowledged their differences in philosophy but noted they got along well.
