Christian Music Festival Stands by Newsboys Despite Allegations
The one-day Christian Music Festival in Eagle, Wisconsin, has confirmed that it will retain Newsboys as the headlining act, despite unresolved allegations against former frontman Michael Tate. In a recent statement shared on social media, Matsu’s Praise emphasized their unity in supporting the band. Church leaders have taken note of this development.
“We choose love. With a heart full of love and faith, we continue to pursue our mission to praise God through music and worship,” officials expressed.
“The Newsboys are committed to this event with a steadfast dedication to their ministries,” the statement continued. “They approach this moment with a focus on humility, prayer, and their calling. We are thrilled to welcome them to the festival and celebrate the joy of coming together.”
In closing, the festival expressed gratitude to concert participants for their ongoing support and prayers. They look forward to the event on July 19th.
This announcement comes in the wake of other Christian festivals, like Kingdom Bound and Lifest, removing artists from their lineups due to similar allegations involving grooming, sexual assault, and substance issues surrounding Tate during the 2014 tour.
Further allegations suggest that both current management and former crew members may have had knowledge of Tate’s misconduct but failed to take appropriate actions.
Matsu’s Praise later posted a message stating, “When faith is tested, Grace responds.” This was shared by sponsors like Superior Business Systems, Inc., and included comments from Craig Figgins, founder of the festival.
“After hearing the accusations against Michael Tate, I was deeply troubled, but I had to consider how this might affect the Pines event in 2025,” Figgins said. “I felt reassured by the committee’s statement and why I chose to be the main sponsor.”
“By taking this stance, I hope to show that God is present even through challenging times,” he added. “You exhibit grace as God does, revealing strength through weakness.”
Figgins concluded by referencing scripture, stating, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” This highlights his commitment to supporting the festival’s mission despite the challenges posed.
