Concerns About Biden’s Viability in 2024 Election
Investigative journalist Josh Dorsey from the Wall Street Journal has suggested that former President Joe Biden’s team is actively working to distance him from criticism as he gears up for the 2024 election. There seems to be some internal debate among Biden’s aides about his suitability as a candidate, which, well, might indicate deeper issues.
During a recent discussion on the “Politics War Room” podcast, Dorsey talked with Democratic strategist James Kerrville and journalist Al Hunt about how some aides express serious doubts about Biden’s potential, while others remain staunchly committed to supporting him regardless of the circumstances.
Dorsey’s new book, which touches on the blind spots and self-interest of Biden and his advisors, has drawn attention. Hunt pointed out that these issues are highlighted throughout the text. Dorsey mentions how the circle around Biden has been notably protective, often omitting crucial information from him—especially following particularly poor performances in debates, notably one that has gained infamy.
There’s a sentiment among both the Democratic base and some voters that it’s time to move on from Biden. Yet, a core group of his aides appears to be fighting tirelessly to keep him on the ticket. Dorsey remarked that there was aggressive isolation happening, which maybe indicates a disconnect between Biden and his team.
When Hunt pressed Dorsey about the dynamics within Biden’s team, he referenced a period during the Hamas attacks, highlighting how critical discussions about candidacy risks were not reaching the president. He claimed campaign fundraising had taken a hit, leading to awkward conversations about whether Biden genuinely wanted to continue his campaign.
In further conversation, Dorsey noted that within the campaign, there was a “core group” of aides who were worried but unable to express their concerns to Biden directly. He mentioned figures like Anita Dunn, Steve Ricchetti, and others as part of that concerned yet silent group.
As the complexities of Biden’s re-election efforts unfold, the internal dynamics indicate not only concern but also a tug-of-war over the future direction of the campaign. Representatives associated with Biden did not respond to inquiries for comment.
