Texas Senator Files for Divorce from Attorney General
On Thursday, Texas Senator Angela Paxton announced she has filed for divorce from her husband, Attorney General Ken Paxton, after 38 years of marriage.
In a post on social media, Angela shared, “Today, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds.” She went on to express her belief that marriage is a sacred contract and that they had seriously worked on reconciliation. However, she noted that recent revelations led her to the conclusion that it wouldn’t be respectful to God or beneficial for herself, her children, or Ken to remain married.
Currently, Ken Paxton is gearing up for the GOP primary next year, which is also becoming a contentious Senate nomination battle against veteran Republican Senator John Cornyn.
Ken, who first won the Texas Attorney General position in 2014 and has since been re-elected twice, faced allegations of corruption in the past, which led to him being impeached by the Texas House several years ago. Despite this, he was later acquitted by a state senator.
In response to the announcement of their divorce, Ken said, “After enduring countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to begin a new chapter in our lives.” He expressed gratitude for their family and emphasized his ongoing commitment to supporting their children and grandchildren.
Influential figures like former President Trump have taken a neutral stance regarding the Senate primary race in Texas, while other key Republican players have thrown their support behind Cornyn.
Some reactions to the situation have noted the difficulties Angela has faced, with comments praising her for standing up for herself during this challenging time.
Angela Paxton represents a Senate district in northern Texas, just outside of Dallas-Fort Worth, which was previously held by her husband before he assumed a statewide office.
