Survey on Deportation Sentiment

A survey conducted by Cygnal in July indicates that a significant majority of voters favor the deportation of illegal immigrants to their home countries.

When participants were asked about their views on the deportation of illegal immigrants, 61.3% expressed support, with around 41% of them indicating that they support it “strongly.” Conversely, 34.7% opposed deportation, with nearly 17% of them feeling “strongly” against it.

The opinions on this topic differ markedly among political parties. A staggering 94% of Republicans favor the deportation of illegal immigrants, while only 4% are opposed. On the other hand, 68% of Democrats are against deporting illegal immigrants, with 26% expressing support.

Interestingly, independents seem to lean toward the Republican view, with 59% supporting deportation and 37% opposing it.

Among Hispanic respondents, the opinions appeared to be closely split, with 50% opposing and 48% supporting the deportation of criminal illegal immigrants.

Overall, surveys since May have shown a slight decline in support for deportation, dropping by 2%.

The survey also revealed that 49.5% of participants supported actions taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), while 47.5% opposed them, with about 3% uncertain. Most Republicans (89%) are in favor of ICE activities, whereas a substantial number of Democrats (86%) oppose them.

Among independents, 52% expressed opposition to ICE actions, compared to 42% who supported them, and the margin of error for this survey is 2.51%.

Deportation efforts are ongoing nationwide, with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) noting that a significant percentage of detained individuals have criminal backgrounds.

In a recent press statement, DHS highlighted the arrest of illegal immigrants in Minneapolis, emphasizing that many categorized as “non-criminals” could be involved in serious offenses such as terrorism or human rights abuse. They mentioned that this classification often misrepresents the reality to the public.
