Bodybuilding icon Ronnie Coleman has shown encouraging signs of recovery just days after being in critical care, according to a family announcement made on Friday.
The family shared that doctors are now targeting the source of his bloodstream infection, describing this development as a positive step. In a recent Instagram update, they noted that Coleman recently underwent successful heart procedures which were minimally invasive, aimed at enhancing his quality of life.
“The medical team has identified and is treating the source of his bloodstream infection. Recently, he has experienced significant improvements in his overall condition and has successfully undergone minimal invasive cardiac procedures. With these recent developments, our focus is shifting from critical care to recovery,” the statement read.
The statement also highlighted the seriousness of his medical situation and the necessity for increased awareness regarding his new health challenges.
“We are incredibly thankful for the continued support and positivity everyone has shown. Motivated by this strength, we want to shine a light on sepsis, a condition that has severely affected Ronnie,” the family expressed.
In light of this, they introduced an initiative called “Ronnie Strong,” aimed at raising funds and advocating for sepsis awareness. A portion of the proceeds from this initiative will go to the Sepsis Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to education and prevention related to this life-threatening condition.

Coleman was hospitalized on June 30th with a blood infection, and this recent statement marks the first time his family has publicly addressed the situation in detail.
Regarded as one of the best bodybuilders in history, Coleman holds numerous Olympia titles, sharing the record with eight wins. His remarkable strength transformed the sport during the 1990s and early 2000s.
His accolades include being inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 and receiving the Arnold Schwarzenegger Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.
