President Donald Trump described the damage caused by a recent flash flood in Texas as “as bad as I saw it,” emphasizing his administration’s dedication to assisting in the rebuilding efforts of the affected communities during an appearance on “The Will Cain Show.”
“What they’ve experienced, frankly, no one has seen anything like that. When you rush through this and have a wave of nearly 40 feet, you’re going to think it’s a dam that bursts,” Trump stated.
He added that, although it’s a challenging situation, it’s a resilient community.
On Friday, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump traveled to Carville, Texas, where they engaged with local officials and first responders in the wake of severe flooding that took over 120 lives. The flooding resulted from the Guadalupe River rising over 22 feet in a matter of hours.
During their visit, the couple met with families of flood victims, including those from Camp Mystic, a nearly century-old Christian summer camp for girls. Despite the “real tragedy,” Trump noted the strong “love for the community” and admiration for their families.
“We help this community too. They love each other. I’ve met this group of people. These bonds run deep, and they’re determined to rebuild,” he told Will Cain.
Among the deceased were at least 27 campers and counselors associated with Camp Mystic. Additionally, over 160 individuals are currently reported missing in Kelly County, Texas, following the disaster.
Trump also acknowledged the “amazing work” done by Texas authorities and volunteers. Ongoing search and rescue efforts continue in the state as communities work to recover from this tragedy.
