Donald Trump’s tariff approach seems to be paying off.

In June, the U.S. government reported an unexpected budget surplus.

According to reports:

The federal government uncovered a surprising budget surplus in June, largely due to a significant rise in tariff revenue and higher-than-anticipated tax collections, showcasing the impact of President Donald Trump’s economic policies.

The Treasury announced a $27 billion surplus, which stands in sharp contrast to the estimated $50 billion deficit, marking one of the most significant shifts in recent budget observations.

Usually, surpluses occur in April when many file taxes, and they are also common in January and September. A June surplus is quite unusual.

This improvement stems from a whopping 301% increase in tariff collections compared to last June. Tariff revenues reached $27 billion in June, up from $23 billion in May and more than $400 million higher than the $6.7 billion collected the previous year. For the fiscal year, tariff revenues total $113 billion, reflecting an 86% increase over the same period in 2024.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent expressed enthusiasm over the news, stating, “Our country is earning rewards from the President’s initial agenda.”

Reports indicate that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent sees this outcome as a sign that the country is likely to benefit from Trump’s tariff strategies.

“The Treasury’s data reflects record tariffs as President Trump works diligently to restore our economic independence,” Bescent commented.
