A community in Florida managed to apprehend a suspect accused of raping an 11-year-old girl after he allegedly lured her into a public restroom.
On July 8, around 7:30 PM, Antoin Johnson, an 18-year-old, reportedly attacked the girl in Gwenchery Park located in northwest Miami-Dade County. According to authorities, he initially asked her to fetch toilet paper before pursuing her into the restroom.
It’s claimed that Johnson dragged the girl into a stall, where he suffocated her and tried to sexually assault her. A woman entered the bathroom and confronted him, causing a scene that alerted others.
The park was busy that evening with kids participating in football and cheerleading practices. One nearby observer jumped into action, chasing Johnson until he could hold him until the police arrived. Mike Santiag recounted the moment, mentioning how the woman shouted for help regarding what had just occurred.
Johnson was said to have retreated to a backyard, where he was physically confronted before deputies intervened. A good Samaritan said they saw the distraught girl trying to explain what had happened, visibly shaken and in tears.
Witnesses reported a surge of people and cars converging on the scene, trying to understand the commotion. Beldda Tompkins, a local resident, described seeing the chaos and expressed sympathy for Johnson, an unexpected reaction given the circumstances.
The girl was transported to a hospital and, thankfully, is currently in stable condition.
Following the incident, Johnson was charged with sexual assault of a minor, kidnapping, and false imprisonment. He is being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre without bail and is due to appear in court on July 29, 2025, facing possible severe penalties if convicted.
