Press Conference Highlights After Taylor vs. Serrano Fight
Early Saturday morning, following Taylor Serrano’s match at Madison Square Garden, a press conference became somewhat controversial. A reporter from Puerto Rico raised a pertinent question: “Does this relate to how women are projected in boxing?”
Discussions arose surrounding the all-female fight cards, with some media members mentioning issues of “female sexualization” and concerns regarding the role of ring girls.
Naxa Bidarian, a co-founder of the Most Valuable Promotions, chimed in with a question about the idea of having “Ring Boys.” This prompted a reply from the audience questioning whether that was necessary or appropriate.
Jake Paul seemed noticeably disappointed during the press conference, especially in light of Amanda Serrano’s loss. At one point, he exclaimed, “Boy, close it. Stop talking.” Then Bidarian humorously suggested that anyone interested in becoming a ring boy should send their application to Paul.
In a jest that took a sharp turn, Paul responded, “Send it to f—ing Kamala Harris.”
The MVP promotion set a Guinness World Record for hosting the most titles on the line during a single boxing event, totaling 21 titles.
Katie Taylor, who successfully faced Amanda Serrano in their trilogy, expressed satisfaction with her performance. Their latest matchup, held on Friday night, went to Taylor through a majority decision. Taylor held the WBA, WBO, WBC, and IBF ultra-lightweight championship belts.
The three-fight saga highlighted their journey as remarkable female boxers. Taylor secured her first win against Serrano on April 30, 2022, and the two squared off again in November as co-main events for a Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card, where Taylor’s victory came under somewhat contentious circumstances.
One judge sided with Serrano, while two awarded the match to Taylor, leading to an emotional reaction from Taylor when the results were announced.
With a career record of 25 wins and a single loss, Taylor has proven her excellence in the ring, while Serrano, now at 47 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, has certainly made her mark as well.
