Mamdani Criticizes Wealthy While Accepting $37 Million From Soros

A recent review of financial records shows that Zohran Mamdani, a socialist candidate for mayor in New York, is against the existence of billionaires within a capitalist framework. Ironically, his campaign has been significantly supported by wealthy leftist donors.

Among these donors is George Soros, often labeled as a major influence on the far left. According to reports, Soros’ Open Society Foundation has contributed around $37 million to the Workers’ Family Party (WFP) and various other leftist organizations over the past decade. This financial backing has played a crucial role in helping Mamdani navigate his campaign, particularly in relation to Democratic primaries overshadowed by figures like Andrew Cuomo.

Organizations supporting Mamdani’s campaign include a variety of social justice nonprofits, also voicing perspectives from anti-Zionist groups advocating for peace.

In a recent interview, Mamdani stated, “I don’t think we should have a billionaire.” He expressed concerns about potential property tax increases impacting “richer, whiter neighborhoods,” a viewpoint reported by various media outlets.

The link between Soros and Mamdani triggered backlash from Republican candidates, including Curtis Swa and current Mayor Eric Adams.

Swa pointed out that Mamdani’s opposition to billionaires seems selective, arguing that those aligned with Soros are exempt from criticism. “If you’re part of George Soros or a donor class on the far left, there’s a free pass and seating at the table,” he remarked.

Adams echoed Swa’s sentiment, emphasizing the need for unified leadership. “You can’t have it both ways. We need leadership that brings people together,” he stated, criticizing the duplicity in Mamdani’s stance.

One conservative anti-tax director, Douglas Kellogg, was particularly harsh on Soros, likening him to a comic book villain who finances movements that undermine individual freedoms globally.

Neither Soros nor Mamdani provided comments when approached by the media for a response.
