Trump Celebrates Red Sox Winning Streak

President Donald Trump took to True Social on Saturday to express excitement over the Boston Red Sox’s recent performance, noting that the team has gone unbeaten since his visit on July 3rd. He mentioned, “They haven’t lost since looking at me in the oval shape. Keep on winning, eight wins!” along with images from their latest win against the Tampa Bay Rays.

On Friday, the Red Sox secured a thrilling 5-4 walk-off victory, extending their winning streak to eight games. Ceddanne Rafaela came through with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, sealing the win.

Interestingly, the Red Sox’s July 3rd visit to the White House was somewhat improvised. Generally, teams visit the president to celebrate championship wins, but in this instance, they stopped by during a trip to Washington, D.C., for a game against the Nationals.

Several players, including Trevor Story, Justin Wilson, and Conor Wong, interacted with Trump during the visit. A team spokesperson mentioned, “The team toured the White House today as part of a family road trip to DC.”

Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who had previously criticized Trump, skipped a visit in 2019 when the team celebrated their 2018 World Series victory.

In an interview earlier this year, Cora shared that he didn’t join the visit to the White House in 2019 because he wanted to prioritize issues in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria’s impact. He expressed mixed feelings about this, stating that he felt uncomfortable celebrating while his home country was still dealing with recovery efforts.

“We’re part of the United States,” he remarked, acknowledging the support but emphasizing the need for more work to be done in Puerto Rico.
