Navarro promotes 'Trumpnomics' in criticism of Powell and the Federal Reserve

In a recent discussion alongside Jerome Powell, Peter Navarro, the senior trade adviser at the White House, championed “Trumpnomics” while criticizing the Federal Reserve Chair, labeling him a “pure partisan” who, according to Navarro, has hindered economic growth.

“So here’s the situation,” Navarro said. “During the first semester of President Trump’s term, Powell took his seat, the first to speak, not grasping the true strength of Trumpnomics, which can foster robust growth without leading to inflation.”

He further stated that Powell’s policies have had a negative impact on growth, claiming, “This translates to nearly a million jobs created, with billions in tax revenue. And when reappointing him, he sides with Biden, showcasing his clear partisan stance.”

Recently, Trump and his administration have expressed discontent with Powell for maintaining interest rates despite a slight easing of inflation. Powell justifies his decision by emphasizing the need to monitor the effects of Trump’s tax cuts and trade initiatives.

Trump, who appointed Powell in 2017 during his first term, previously stated he wouldn’t dismiss him, though he criticized Powell’s management of interest rates.

“I think he’s doing a poor job. We should be looking at rates being three points lower. This is costing our country. We need to reclaim our position as number one.”

The White House accused Powell of mismanagement concerning the Fed’s budget, which is currently undergoing revisions.

“At this point, interest rates should ideally be above 50 basis points. Data shows that inflation has decreased significantly,” Navarro added.
