John MacArthur, the pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, has been hospitalized due to pneumonia after dealing with various health issues over the years.
This health update came during a Sunday service when the congregation was gathered to celebrate. Assistant Pastor Tom Patton shared the news, mentioning, “Pastor John has signed a pneumonia this week. He may be admitted to the hospital and soon be in front of the Lord.”
During the service, Patton, along with his family, urged the congregation to pray for MacArthur. It’s worth noting that MacArthur has previously made headlines for his defiance of state restrictions during the pandemic, advocating for in-person services.
Over the years, he has faced a series of health challenges, including a sudden illness while preaching earlier this year. Following that incident, he had undergone multiple surgeries related to atrial fibrillation.
Earlier, he stated that a recent procedure went well, expressing optimism about his recovery and his desire to return once he felt better.
Despite his longstanding leadership at Grace Community Church, some uncertainty lingers about his health, particularly after encountering complications from surgeries in late 2024, which were reportedly delayed and affected his lungs.
MacArthur has dedicated 56 years to leading the church and heads Grace To You, a nonprofit that distributes a large array of his teachings. During Sunday’s service, Patton emphasized the commitment MacArthur has shown over the years, saying, “We place our dear pastor at the feet of our glorious Savior, waiting for his final order to remain forever in His presence.” Grace Community Church has not yet responded to requests for further comment.
