Avelo Airlines shutting down its West Coast base at Hollywood Burbank Airport

Avelo Airlines, a budget airline based in Texas, has announced that it will cease operations on the West Coast starting Monday, specifically at Hollywood Burbank Airport, citing ongoing economic difficulties.

As part of this transition, the airline will reduce its airport operations to a single aircraft until December 2, after which it will permanently close its Southern California base, which services 13 routes.

In a statement, the company expressed, “We continue to believe in our service. However, in the current operational climate, we find the financial rewards inadequate, especially given the intense competition.”

Avelo also mentioned that it plans to transfer its West Coast fleet to other areas where growth prospects appear more promising and where it can enhance its operations on the East Coast.

For current customers, those with existing flights can cancel their reservations online for a refund. The airline is offering employees the option to relocate to one of its other hubs, which are located on the East Coast, including North Carolina, Florida, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.

While the airline faces its own set of challenges, a spokesman clarified that recent protests and a contract with the Department of Homeland Security did not influence the decisions regarding the West Coast operations.
