Cuomo Critiques AOC’s Influence on Democrats
On a recent podcast, Chris Cuomo stirred up discussions regarding Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), describing her as a “symbol of the end of the mise” for the Democratic Party. He believes the party should distance itself from figures like her.
Cuomo expressed concern that supporting candidates like Ocasio-Cortez, who tends to focus on the interests of “a few rather than the many,” could lead to the party’s doom. He labeled the attention given to her as a “giant mistake.”
During the podcast, he reflected on what it means to “wake up,” suggesting that it’s about recognizing and valuing the concerns of a smaller group over the broader populace. He warned that Democrats might be repeating past mistakes, especially in light of actions taken by New York City Council members.
Cuomo stated, “AOC is a key figure in this narrative, embodying the Democrats’ shift towards prioritizing a few over the many.”
After the podcast, he further criticized Ocasio-Cortez, warning that focusing on her could popularize extreme ideologies that could be harmful. He shared his concerns about the misconceptions that might arise from this attention.
“Focusing on AOC is problematic. I think you’re making a significant error,” he asserted. He emphasized the dangers posed by radical ideologies and the issues stemming from their endorsement by some within the party.
Cuomo also warned that by supporting Ocasio-Cortez, Democrats might find themselves in a precarious situation, one that could have serious repercussions they might not be prepared for.
His critique comes in the backdrop of his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is currently facing off against another democratic socialist, Zoran Mamdani, in the New York City mayoral race. Although Mamdani previously defeated Andrew for the Democratic nomination, Andrew continues in the general election.
James Carville, a seasoned Democratic strategist, shares Cuomo’s concerns, having criticized the party for allowing figures like Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders to shape its image. Carville argues that the Democratic Party has a wealth of diverse talent that better represents its identity and should be front and center instead of the far-left views promoted by certain representatives.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s office for a response.
