Terry McLaurin feeling quite frustrated with contract issues

Terry McLaurin is hoping for a resolution regarding his contract soon.

Speaking to reporters after filming a commercial, he expressed a desire to remain with the Washington Commanders, but noted that discussions about a new contract have been nonexistent for a month now.

“I wasn’t going to sugarcoat it,” McLaurin remarked. “The situation has been quite disappointing. I want to continue my career here because, well, I’ve built my life here.”

McLaurin missed mandatory minicamps in June, incurring fines exceeding $100,000, and is now entering the final year of a three-year, $68.4 million deal.

If the 29-year-old doesn’t secure a new contract, he might just have to sit out.

“It’s tough to think about stepping onto the field without any progress talks,” he stated.

Throughout his career in Washington, McLaurin has consistently achieved over 1,000 receiving yards for five consecutive years. Last season, with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, he notched a career-high 13 touchdowns and earned a second Pro Bowl selection.

“If I’m not seen as part of their future, just let me know,” he added. “I can handle difficult truths; I’m an adult.”

The Commanders are coming off an impressive 12-5 season, which included a trip to the NFC Championship, though they fell short against the Super Bowl champions, the Eagles.

While they brought in star wide receiver Deebo Samuel through an offseason trade with the 49ers, McLaurin’s absence complicates their success, especially without key players in the mix.

“I think it’s essential to have a constructive discussion,” McLaurin stated. “Like I mentioned, we haven’t spoken in over a month. With training camp approaching, it’s becoming urgent. [Daniels] and I are still working on our chemistry in the offense.”
