Jon Rahm aims for his third major title at the British Open

Rahm Seeks Glory at the 153rd British Open

Portrush, Northern Ireland – If you’re influenced by past performances and current patterns, you might lean toward John Rahm as a compelling choice for the 153rd British Open.

The 30-year-old Spaniard, who boasts victories at both the US Open and the Masters, is eyeing his third major title this week in Portrush.

However, there’s more riding on this for Rahm. He aspires to become the second Spaniard to clinch the Open title, following in the footsteps of his idol, Seve Ballesteros, who secured his first claret jug back in 1988.

Rahm has a special fondness for links golf, describing it as “the closest I’ve come to playing at home without actually being at home.”

His prowess in this style of play is evident, having won two Irish Opens, one of which was just a short drive from Portrush, in Port Stewart.

This year, Rahm arrived in Northern Ireland following impressive performances at both the US Open and PGA Championships, finishing as a runner-up in a LIV golf event held in Valderrama, Spain.

“I feel like I’m always close,” Rahm shared on Tuesday when discussing his game. “Last week especially on Sunday, I had a really good round. I’m feeling good and confident. Hopefully, I can keep that going this week.”

When asked if he had envisioned himself lifting a claret jug as an Open champion, Rahm didn’t hesitate: “Yes.” He emphasized his belief that the Open Championship is the most prestigious title in golf. Looking ahead, he mentioned that winning at St Andrews would be a monumental achievement, one that would surpass anything else in the sport.

“It’s a golf home. This is where golf originated,” he reflected. “The Open is the oldest championship we have. It encompasses everything about golf—elements, weather—it’s a truly unique links course.”
