The former Gold Gloves boxing champion and celebrity fitness trainer on TV’s “The Biggest Loser” has launched a campaign to “defeat” three-term Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in November’s election. .
President Trump supporter Carla Castronuova, a conservative journalist who defended the January 6 rioters, entered the Republican race days before state party leaders are scheduled to select their favorite candidate at Thursday’s convention. It emerged as a latecomer.
“I’ve been a fighter all my life,” said Castronuova, 44. “Let me get in the ropes with Kirsten Gillibrand. One on one, woman on woman.” I’ll kick her out of her DCC and bring her title back to her Republican Party.
“I’m not scared,” she told the Post on Monday. “I know what it’s like to lose. I know what it’s like to win. It’s about the fight.”
Mr. Castronuova has the support of the Staten Island Republican Party (formerly New York City). Mayor Rudy Giuliani and long time trump Advisor Roger Stone.
Castronuova ran for state representative in 2022, but lost to Democrat Michael Solages in the blue-colored 22nd District. She received her 42% of the vote.
She is a co-founder of Citizens Against Political Persecution, a group defending the pro-Trump mob at the Capitol on January 6th, a Newsmax reporter, and most recently Interviewing supporters.
Given his late entry into the race days before the convention, Mr. Castronuova aims to receive 25% of weighted votes from party activists at the convention to qualify to run in the Republican primary. That’s what he said.
“Primaries are healthy. Voters should have a choice,” said Castronuova, a lifelong Elmont resident and Hofstra University graduate.
Michael Supplycorn, a former NYPD detective, has received significant support from Republican leaders in most of the state’s largest counties and is seen as a front-runner.
Josh Eisen, a businessman backed by former Republican Gov. George Pataki, is also seeking the nomination.
In 2020, Castronuova organized anti-lockdown protests in Albany during the COVID-19 outbreak.
She said she unapologetically supports former President Trump.
“I’m an ‘America First’ guy. I think Trump has great policies and was a great president. He’s been retweeting articles I’ve written,” Castronuova said.
“I’m not a hopeful person. Trump is the leader of our party.”
