A belated valentine to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy

Valentine's Day has creeped up to me this year.

So, this article should consider a love letter on behalf of American drivers everywhere.

“The American people deserve an efficient, safe and growth-promoting transport system based on sound decisions, not political ideology.”

Duffy won our hearts on the first day that removed the strict fossil fuel emissions standards established by the Biden administration more than a year ago.

“The withdrawal reflects the administration's commitment to unleash American energy and eliminate illegal regulatory burdens,” he said in a January 29 statement.

Pure poem!

Gives a chance

In December 2023, the Biden administration and the Federal Highways Administration completed rules establishing ways to measure and report transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions.

The regulations required state-level agencies to establish targets to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles traveling on national highways. These targets were intended to become more stringent over time until greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 50% to 52% by 2030.

According to a 2021 Biden White House fact sheet, this was part of a plan to reach “net-zero emissions by 2050.” In other words, completely abandoning gas-powered vehicles.

Fortunately, Americans announced their conscious opposition to the Biden administration in November. And like his boss, Duffy quickly proved that we had made the right choice.

Cafe Day

He also issued a memorandum related to “Additions to the Cafe Program.” The average fuel economy standard for companies, first established in 1975, is a metric that regulates distance vehicles by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, requiring travel per gallon of fuel.

Duffy said they were way too expensive.

“These fuel economy standards are set at such a positive level that they are unable to meet the standards, as a practical issue for automakers, without rapidly shifting from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to alternative electric technology. “I'm doing that,” he said.

Duffy also said that the “artificially high” fuel economy standard places a rather large cost, and that “many new vehicle models are out of hand for the average American family and small business owners.”

Duffy directed the NHTSA to begin reviewing and reviewing all existing fuel economy standards, and to withdraw or replace them that they are not complying with Trump administration policies.

He states: “Under President Trump's leadership, we focus on stifling economic growth, preventing increased costs for American families, and eliminating excessive regulations that prioritize the far left agenda over practical solutions. I believe that… Americans deserve an efficient, safe, and growth-promoting transport system based on sound decisions rather than political ideology. These actions are what we make promises. It will help you to fulfill your performance.”

Above our original

When you thought you couldn't get away more vigorously, Duffy went ahead and canceled the program of Pete Battigeg's former Traffic Secretary to revise the design of the “racist” highway. . Instead, he intends to focus on bringing car consumers with greater options at a lower price.

Well, that's the kind of guy you know you're a keeper.

I hope this is just the beginning, not sounding ungrateful. Our country still needs to throw away the kill switch and speed limiter. And then when we parted ways with California and its Air Resources Committee. There is no need to withdraw the secretary either. We are ready to move forward for a long time.
