Unique Literary Home Hits the Market
A remarkable property for book lovers has surfaced in Columbus, Ohio. This home is brimming with over 7,000 hardback books, filling its dramatic floor-to-ceiling shelves.
Reportedly, the house was specifically designed to capture the essence of a quaint German village cottage. While the exterior boasts materials reminiscent of early 20th-century architecture, the structure itself is a contemporary dual-unit residence featuring luxurious amenities intended for short-term rentals.
The spacious layout spans 4,536 square feet, featuring two separate living units with a total of eight bedrooms and six bathrooms—plenty of room for up to 24 guests.
The property’s immersive design aims to blend vintage aesthetics with modern comforts, according to reports. Developer Guy Marshall, driven by this vision, amassed about 7,000 hardcover books, which he acquired for an astonishingly low price—around 10 cents each, as noted.
Each room is adorned with these books, filling shelves from floor to ceiling, complemented by rolling library ladders for easy access.
I mean, just imagine having that many books around. Sounds like a dream for anyone who loves reading, right? Just a stone’s throw away from the bustling downtown and a nearby children’s hospital, the listing highlights its potential as an entertaining space.
Among the standout features is the library ladder, skillfully designed to allow access to each expansive bookshelf brimming with thousands of titles.
Experts estimate this property could yield around $273,000 annually from short-term rental opportunities. Marshall emphasized that every detail was meticulously considered in the design.
The home showcases its unique exterior with dyed concrete blocks finished to resemble aged masonry. The walls are intentionally single-layer, reflecting early 1900s construction, highlighting a commitment to historic craftsmanship with notable elements like antique light fixtures and custom ironwork.
Marshall expressed his intentions, stating he aimed to merge luxury, comfort, and character, which seems to be a rare find in today’s market.
Even though the construction of such a home can be pricier compared to a standard stick frame house, he believes these unique investments are worth the effort to create a truly memorable space.
This whimsical literary haven has gained attention on platforms like “Zillow Gone Wild,” sparking conversations online. Some commenters noted practical concerns, like dust accumulation from the numerous books, while others simply expressed their admiration for the unique living arrangement.
It seems this home really resonates with a variety of people, proving that, at least for some, living surrounded by books is undoubtedly a dream scenario.
