It’s not exactly a typical legal matter, but a fan from Colorado is really putting it to the test. This individual, known as “John Do” in the court papers, is pursuing a whopping $100 million in damages from the NFL after a disappointing fifth-round selection for the player he admires during the NFL Draft.
Do, who claims Georgia residency, has expressed his deep loyalty to Colorado football. He’s spent a lot of time watching Shedeur Sanders, both through various media and in person, following Sanders’ path into the NFL closely. The lawsuit accuses the NFL of violating antitrust laws by supposedly manipulating Sanders’ draft position, suggesting he faced discrimination as a Black quarterback. It also argues that the process was misrepresented, leading to civil rights violations and breaches of consumer protection laws.
Apparently, this passionate fan is convinced that Sanders’ fall to the fifth round has caused him immense emotional distress, to the extent that he feels entitled to a $100 million payout for his suffering.
Interestingly, this isn’t a standard case with legal representation. Do is acting as his own lawyer and has filed using “Formapoperis,” indicating he can’t afford the court fees necessary to take further action. This Latin phrase translates roughly to “like the poor.”
For now, it’s somewhat fortunate that there aren’t more immediate legal issues related to Shedeur Sanders’ draft situation.
