A college student accused of killing his roommate and another person in a Colorado Springs dormitory reportedly told his roommate he would “kill” her if she asked him to take out the trash again.by Associated Press.
The situation was reported to campus police and housing authorities in early January, but police made no effort to remove the suspect from the room. University spokesperson Chris Valentine said he could not provide additional information about the situation because the investigation is still ongoing.
Nicholas Jordan, 25, of Detroit, was charged with first-degree murder, felony menacing and two counts of criminal violence in the Feb. 16 killing of his roommate, according to the report. His roommate, Samuel Knopp, 24, and another, Celie Lane Montgomery, 26, were both murdered in their college dorm rooms.
ABC News report Jordan’s lawyer, Nick Rogers, said he objected to details of the case being released to the public. He went on to say that Mr Jordan, currently a third-year student at the university studying accounting, would be “indicted in the media”.
A third roommate who lived with Knopp and Jordan told investigators that Knopp had made several complaints about Jordan’s cleanliness and smoking cigarettes and marijuana. Jordan threatened Knopp after he collected trash in a bag and placed it outside Jordan’s bedroom door in his pod-style dormitory.
“Mr. Jordan threatened to ‘kill’ Mr. Knopp, and there would be consequences if he was asked to take out the garbage again,” authorities said in a written statement.
According to reports, Jordan had requested to be expelled from the university just 14 hours before the shooting. His dorm room was empty when the incident occurred.
Although a warrant for Jordan’s arrest was issued just one day after the investigation began, he was not officially considered a suspect in the case until he was finally arrested in a residential area in Colorado Springs on Monday.
The Associated Press reported that authorities found a firearm in Jordan’s car and that he also had a loaded AK-47.
Jordan was at work when he was arrested by police after the incident. All of his belongings were reportedly packed into the car.
