A guide to purchasing tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Exciting games are set to take place in the US, Mexico, and Canada in 2026, attracting millions of fans eager to catch the action live. However, securing tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup might not be as straightforward as simply logging into a familiar ticket outlet, as it’s anticipated that around 6.5 million fans will register online.

To stay informed about ticket sales, FIFA suggests that interested fans sign up on their website and create a FIFA ID. This ID will be crucial for purchasing tickets when they become available.

Lottery System

The sale of tournament tickets will occur in several phases, kicking off with the first release on September 10th. When this initial phase starts, registered fans will be able to apply for a chance to purchase tickets in a random time slot.

This first ticket sale coincides with the ongoing World Cup qualifiers leading into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. So, during this phase, purchasers won’t know which teams are playing in the games for which they’re buying tickets.

After an official draw assigns teams to groups, another phase will offer buyers clarity on match-ups and locations.

Guaranteed Purchase Option

If the lottery sounds too uncertain, FIFA has a system called Purchase Rights (RTB), which allows fans a more assured way to acquire tickets. There are multiple ways to earn RTBs through FIFA’s digital platform.

  • Buy a Glory Purchase Pack, which offers one RTB for matches in a specific host city.
  • Complete a designated challenge involving digital collectibles to earn RTBs as a reward.
  • Purchase a Surprise Pack that might contain RTBs.
  • Buy from the marketplace where other collectors might resell RTBs.

Keep in mind, Glory Packs are limited and might be marked up if sold out.

This option does require both an investment and some familiarity with digital assets and currencies.

Hospitality and Travel Packages

In 2025, FIFA introduced hospitality packages for those seeking a high-end experience, which include access to VIP lounges, food, drinks, and more. Prices start at $1,350 per person for individual matches but can escalate to tens of thousands depending on the team, venue, and competition phase.

Additionally, verified retailers and travel agents offer all-inclusive packages covering flights, accommodations, transportation, and other game-day essentials.

Resale and Third-Party Retailers

FIFA aims to keep ticket resales on its official platform. If someone can’t make the match, they can resell their tickets through the FIFA Tickets website. Using third-party sellers is a gamble—as tickets might be sold outside the official platform, raising the risk of fraud.

This caution also applies to buying tickets near the stadium on game day.
