Another 2025 Best Picture nominee is now available for streaming at home.
“Hamnet,” directed by Chloé Zhao and a recipient of the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture or Best Drama, can be rented or purchased on platforms like Prime Video.
This film, highly praised by critics, draws from the novel by Maggie O’Farrell, who co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay with Zhao. “Hamnet” explores the family dynamics of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes, particularly in the wake of a sudden tragedy and its influence on “Hamlet,” one of Shakespeare’s most renowned works.
Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley portray the Shakespeares. Buckley received an Oscar nomination for her role, adding to her accolades, which already include wins from the Broadcast Critics Association and the Golden Globe in January. “Hamnet” was also one of eight films nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.
Entertainment critic Johnny Okresinski praised “Hamnet,” giving it four stars and labeling it “one of the year’s most intense films.”
