The Eagles are gearing up to face the Giants, but they’ll have to do so without their star wide receiver, AJ Brown. Unfortunately, he won’t be playing this Sunday in Philadelphia due to a hamstring injury, as the team announced on Friday.
At 28 years old, Brown had been an ever-present force this season until this injury cropped up, which many noticed earlier in the week.
His absence comes as a significant setback for an Eagles offense that has faced challenges in various games this year. Through seven games, the team has only managed to average 286.9 total yards per game, which is among the lowest in the league—specifically, it ranks seventh from the bottom.
Brown’s individual performance hasn’t been stellar either, averaging just 56.4 receiving yards per game. That’s, quite surprisingly, the lowest average he’s seen in his seven years in the NFL.
Earlier this season, there were hints of frustration from Brown about the Eagles’ offensive strategy, leading to some vague posts on social media when things weren’t going well.
He even addressed rumors about a potential trade, asserting his commitment to Philadelphia. “This is my home, you know? I did it for myself, but this is my home. I love it here,” he stated. However, he added, “you’re just frustrated because obviously we want to be great… and I definitely want to be great as well.”
Despite some chatter about locker room tensions, the Eagles are still leading the NFC East with a 5-2 record as they head into Week 8. In fact, in their last encounter with the Giants just two weeks ago, they faced a tough loss, going down 34-17 at MetLife Stadium in what was a disappointing Thursday Night Football match.
