A.J. Brown sparks interest in the Patriots as trade talks resurface.

AJ Brown’s Future in Question

There’s growing speculation that AJ Brown might be on the move.

Following a tumultuous 2025 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, Brown appeared on a podcast with Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman. Edelman, who spent his entire career with the New England Patriots, jokingly mentioned that they were all Patriots.

“Remember, we’re all patriots,” Edelman quipped on “Game with Names.”

Brown smiled and winked at both Gronkowski and Edelman. It was a lighthearted moment until Gronkowski chimed in, asking if Brown was going to join the Patriots, which made Edelman very animated.

A voice off-camera suddenly exclaimed, “Oh,” prompting laughter from Brown, who playfully replied, “No!” He added, “They’re vandalizing.”

Brown hasn’t held back in expressing his discontent with the Eagles over the past two seasons, especially regarding a fallout with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Such a disconnect certainly fuels trade rumors, and the idea of him fitting in with the Patriots seems plausible.

Before his time with the Eagles, Brown spent three seasons with the Tennessee Titans, where he was under the eye of current Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

Interestingly, during the podcast, Brown revealed he didn’t always see eye to eye with Vrabel, who focused a lot on accountability during his tenure in Tennessee.

Back then, Ryan Tannehill was the Titans’ quarterback. While Tannehill is competent, he’s perhaps not as promising as Drake Maye, who narrowly lost the NFL MVP award to Matthew Stafford.

AJ Brown quickly became a standout player, making waves in the league with 1,051 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his rookie year in 2019.

His initial two years with the Eagles were explosive, too—he racked up 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first season.

However, his performance has tapered off in recent years, which seems to be contributing to his growing frustration.

Things took a turn to the point where Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie felt the need to intervene, asking Brown to tone down his grievances during the season.

If Brown indeed pushes for a trade, doing so would likely require the Patriots to surrender a considerable amount of draft picks. Yet, with established players like Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boots already on their roster, the Patriots might not have an immediate need for another wide receiver.
